If loving carbs (especially bread) is wrong, maybe we don’t want to be right. In fact, science has proven that our love for pasta, muffins, and more is connected to our DNA. But even if we’ve noshed on go-to carbs before, it may be worth asking your server about its ingredients, as a recent recall is impacting the bread supply in one particular state.

According to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) press release, the food production company The Baking Group has recalled 629 cases of brioche bread loaves and 104 cases of hamburger buns from the Dallas area.

The recall is due to the potential presence of undeclared milk, soy, and the food dye Yellow #5. The recall notice warns, “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to Soy, Wheat Milk or Yellow FD&C#5 run the risk of possible serious allergic reaction if consumed.”

The affected products were sold to food distribution company Ben E. Keith based in Fort Worth, Texas, and restaurant Rodeo Goat Casa Linda located in Dallas, Texas.

The recalled products are listed as:

  • Ben E. Keith Co. Dense Brioche Pullman Loaf, 33 ounces (oz)
    • Case weight: 15 pounds (lbs)
    • Product Code: 654203
    • GTIN: 00038597654203
  • Ben E. Keith Co. 4.5″ Brioche HB Buns, 3 ounces (oz)
    • Case weight: 10 pounds (lbs)
    • Product Code: 54500
    • GTIN: 00038597654203
  • Rodeo Goat Casa Linda Brioche Pullman Loaf, 33 ounces (oz)
    • Case weight: 15 pounds (lbs)
    • Product Code: 654203
    • GTIN: 00038597654203

Buyers should be aware that both the Ben E. Keith Co. Dense Brioche Pullman Loaf and Rodeo Goat Casa Linda Brioche Pullman Loaf packages included seven loaves in each case, while the Brioche HB Buns were packed with 48 to a case.

The recall was initiated on March 25, but on April 9, the FDA labeled it as a Class II risk, meaning consumption of the products could cause “temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects.”

As noted by the Cleveland Clinic, food allergies can cause airway swelling, difficulty breathing, low blood pressure, and more. People who experience severe food allergy symptoms should seek medical attention right away.

Those who’ve purchased the brioche loaves and hamburger buns between December 24 and March 12 and still have them on hand should reach out to their distributor for a refund or re-labeling.

For questions about the recall, customers can call The Bakery Group at 214-823-3943 during the week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
